The University of Diyala organized a webinar with French universities and institutions to discuss the state of mathematics departments in Iraqi universities.
The university recently hosted a webinar featuring prominent French universities and institutions, including Professor Michel Wald Schmidt from Sorbonne University, Professor Christoph Ritzenhaler, Director of the International Center for Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA), as well as heads of mathematics departments from Iraqi science colleges. The webinar focused on evaluating the current state of mathematics departments in Iraqi universities, reviewing the expertise of their academic staff, and emphasizing the importance of scientific research.
The event, which was attended by faculty members from both Iraqi and international universities, addressed two primary themes. The first theme provided an overview of mathematics departments in Iraqi universities, presented by Assistant Professor Fatima Mohammed Abboud. This was followed by a summary of the mathematics departments in Kurdistan universities, delivered by Professor Hirsch Omar Abdullah. Madame Bernadette Shehu, the representative of scientific cooperation at the French Embassy, introduced the embassy’s supported activities, while Professor Michel Waldschmidt discussed the history of collaboration between the International Center for Pure and Applied Mathematics and Iraqi universities. The first segment concluded with a scientific lecture by Professor Christoph Ritzenhaler, who explored “Coding Theory and its Applications in Mathematical Sciences.” The second theme featured specialized scientific lectures from lecturers, researchers, and postgraduate students across various Iraqi universities. These presentations were organized into three distinct areas: Algebra and Number Theory, Numerical Analysis, and Differential Equations and Statistics. The sessions provided a platform for sharing cutting-edge research and fostering academic collaboration
